Strengthening opportunities for street youths

It is estimated that there are over 37,000 street youths living in Germany, including more than 6,500 minors. There are many reasons for this fate: experiences of violence, neglect, poverty, unemployment, debt, poor education or addiction problems in the family often play a role.

How Straßenkinder e.V. supports children and young people in Berlin

Straßenkinder e.V. has been active in Berlin for over 24 years and supports young people affected by poverty and educational disadvantage.

With three areas of work, the association now reaches children and young people up to the age of 27 in Berlin in a variety of ways every day:

Through street social work, the association helps young people living on Berlin’s streets find their way back into society. In addition, the association offers support through drop-in centres and advice services, as well as emergency assistance.

Through the BOLLE Children’s and Youth Centre in Berlin-Marzahn, the association works to prevent child and educational poverty by offering a wide range of leisure and educational activities.

Furthermore, the association is committed to the integration of refugee children and young people from various regions of the world, as well as their families.

The work of Straßenkinder e.V. is based on a non-denominational Christian foundation and is funded almost entirely by donations. A team of around 42 full-time staff, alongside volunteers and freelance workers at three locations in Berlin, enables the organisation to reach up to 200 children and young people every day.

Our support for Straßenkinder e.V.: SDG 4: Quality education and lifelong learning for all

Through a donation of €4,000 to the LEBEN project, we at Kaltwasser Kommunikation are helping street children to better cope with the consequences of violence and neglect. In particular, we support the services offered by the BOLLE Children’s and Youth Centre in:

  • Leisure activities ranging from sports to craft projects
  • Educational work to promote equal opportunities
  •  Vocational support
  • Violence prevention
  • Music promotion
  • Experiential learning and promoting healthy eating
