Construction requires dialogue:
digital communication for infrastructure projects

To answer these questions promptly and transparently, Kaltwasser Kommunikation has created a digital information platform for Bayernwerk Netz. With two dedicated websites on ground investigations and mapping, a central point of contact has been developed that explains complex technical topics in an accessible way and builds trust amongst all stakeholders.
The background
Extensive preparatory work is required for the planned grid expansion. These include ground investigations, which provide information on soil conditions and bearing capacity, as well as ecological mapping, which records the presence of flora and fauna. These measures are essential for planning – but often cause concern amongst local residents.
As the procedures are complex and require explanation, there is a great need for transparency. Early dialogue is therefore crucial to building trust and fostering acceptance.
The process
To bridge this gap, we have designed two project subpages specifically dedicated to the topics of ground investigations and mapping. The process can be broken down into several steps:
- Conceptualisation: Design and structure of the subpages, precisely tailored to the needs of the target audience
- Content preparation: Development of easy-to-understand FAQs on the specialist topics mentioned
- Images and maps: Support for the design of visual material to illustrate the explanations
We have integrated QR codes into the letters to property owners, which link directly to the digital information. This marks the transition from print to digital: basic information remains in written form, whilst more in-depth content is available online at any time.
The result
The platform facilitates access to complex topics relating to grid expansion and creates transparency in the planning process. Property owners and members of the public receive straightforward answers to their questions, whilst the public gains confidence in the approach.
- Wide reach: Thanks to the digital subpages, information is available to everyone at any time
- Reduced workload for contact persons: Many standard questions are answered via the FAQs
- Greater acceptance: Clear, citizen-focused communication reduces reservations about site investigations and mapping
- Visual clarity: Images and maps make technical details easier to understand
- Sustainability: From print to digital – less paper thanks to multimedia content
- Bayernwerk Netz is perceived as a transparent and community-focused project organiser

“Providing information at an early stage helps to allay concerns – which is why we are committed to open dialogue throughout the project when it comes to grid expansion.”
