Supporting young talent in the media industry

In a world where disinformation and fake news can spread around the globe in just a few clicks, the role of media professionals is becoming increasingly important. Credible information, thorough research and independent journalism form the backbone of a democratic society. Young people who champion these values deserve not only respect, but also targeted support. That is why, as part of our Christmas campaign this year, we are supporting Junge Presse Bayern e.V.

50 years of ‘creating media’ – giving young people access to the media landscape

Junge Presse Bayern e.V. is an association that has been supporting young media creators in Bavaria for over five decades. Founded in 1970 as a non-partisan organisation, the association offers teenagers and young adults up to the age of 27 the opportunity to develop journalistic skills and gain valuable experience and contacts within the media industry.

Junge Presse Bayern supports its members through a wide range of initiatives. These include practical workshops and seminars, as well as the Mobile Media Academy, which facilitates flexible, digital professional development. In 2023, for example, three youth media congresses were at the heart of the organisation’s work. These events featured workshops, seminars and opportunities for discussion on a wide variety of topics such as ‘Getting started in journalism’, ‘Media law’ and journalistic styles and genres. 2024 was characterised by collaborations and networking with other organisations, such as Munich eSports. Further exciting projects are planned for 2025, including a multi-day educational camp focusing on journalism in social media and public relations in the Alps, as well as the continuation of the media congresses.

Furthermore, the association offers an important opportunity to network with media organisations, universities and companies, with which it also maintains long-term collaborations and partnerships. The JOIN magazine, relaunched in 2024, provides up-and-coming talent with a platform to test and showcase their journalistic skills.

The association is based at the Haus der Jugendarbeit in Munich and has around 400 to 500 members, comprising school pupils, university students and apprentices, as well as supporting members. In addition, Junge Presse Bayern raises awareness among young people of current challenges such as fake news and ethical media consumption.

SDG 4: Quality education and lifelong learning for all

With our donation, we are supporting Junge Presse Bayern. The association plays a vital role in paving the way for young people to enter the media world and in ensuring independent reporting continues into the future. We wish to support this aim with our donation. Further information on the work of Junge Presse Bayern e.V. can be found here.
