Kaltwasser presents its sustainability report

Why a sustainability report?
The report highlights the initiatives and wide-ranging commitments of the Kaltwasser team from 2020 and 2021. “Since 2019, we have established sustainability as a core theme and the most important task of our time within the agency. Making our contribution to a sustainable world is a matter close to our hearts,” says Brigitte Kaltwasser, founder and managing director of Kaltwasser Kommunikation. “For our report, we have taken an in-depth look at all sustainability aspects relevant to us. It was important to us to involve all our staff in this process.” The company has been committed to communication surrounding the energy transition for many years. Under the motto “Communication that makes a difference”, Kaltwasser is playing a positive role in shaping the transformation society is undergoing, whether through the implementation of sustainable neighbourhood developments or the establishment of promising technologies such as hydrogen. This is also reflected in the latest PR ranking, where Kaltwasser Kommunikation GmbH took second place in the Environment and Energy sectors.
Sustainable Development Goals – our SDGs
As part of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the communications agency has identified the areas in which it can make the greatest contribution to sustainability and bring about the most positive change. These are the four goals: ‘Good Health and Well-being’ (SDG 3), ‘Decent Work and Economic Growth’ (SDG 8), ‘Responsible Consumption and Production’ (SDG 12) and ‘Sustainable Cities and Communities’ (SDG 11). With regard to the latter goal, Kaltwasser staff are actively involved locally through year-round communication support for the Bayern07 swimming club, press relations for the Nuremberg Digital Festival, participation in the regional CSR network, and litter-picking campaigns at the three sites. The sustainability team at Kaltwasser Kommunikation GmbH is currently developing a climate strategy with measures and targets to reduce and prevent emissions. The main sources of emissions and areas for potential savings have already been identified.
That’s where we’re heading – the next CSR report is already in the planning stage
The current report provides a clear and transparent overview: it highlights key areas for future action regarding corporate responsibility and the environmental impact of communications consultancy. Kaltwasser Kommunikation GmbH will focus on these areas to ensure continuous improvement. From 2023, the communications agency will publish a non-financial statement in accordance with the criteria of the German Sustainability Code (DNK) and submit it to the DNK database.
Reporting obligation from 2024: SMEs must also comply
From 2024, the reporting obligation will apply to companies with 250 or more employees and a balance sheet total of more than 20 million euros or a turnover of more than 40 million euros. Those who start now can prepare at their own pace, raise awareness amongst their staff and firmly embed sustainability within the organisation. After all, a report is based on the organisation’s activities. These need to be established at an early stage and driven forward collectively by the company team.
Changes to reporting requirements from 2025
The European Commission’s Omnibus Regulation introduces changes to sustainability reporting requirements. As of 26 February 2025, the reporting requirements will apply to companies with more than 1,000 employees and an annual turnover of at least 50 million euros or a balance sheet total of at least 25 million euros.
