With the launch of Nuremberg Tech’s new visual identity in February 2023, it became necessary to redesign the university magazine, the Ohm-Journal, as well. The objective: a modern, appealing design that presents academic content in a structured manner and reflects the university’s brand identity.
Kaltwasser Kommunikation was commissioned with the creative implementation – from the initial concept through to the final preparation of print data. The magazine is published twice a year and is aimed at students, staff and external readers.
The starting point
Nuremberg Tech planned a redesign of its university magazine, the Ohm-Journal, which presents content clearly and concisely across around 100 pages per issue. Kaltwasser Kommunikation took charge of the entire layout development. The university’s editorial team was responsible for coordinating the project, producing the text and selecting the images. The web version of the magazine was also implemented by Kaltwasser Kommunikation.
The process
To begin with, Kaltwasser Kommunikation developed a design concept that combines a clear structure with appealing visual elements, conveys the university’s identity and consistently adheres to all corporate design guidelines.
This was followed by the professional integration of the supplied content:
- Structured text layout: Clear organisation for optimal readability,
- Visual harmony: Carefully considered arrangement of text, images and graphic elements,
- Image optimisation: checking and post-processing of images to ensure a bright, friendly appearance.
In the final step, Kaltwasser Kommunikation professionally prepared the print data and coordinated the production process in close collaboration with the university’s communications department.
The result
With a print run of 4,000 copies, the Ohm Journal features a modern, clearly structured layout that presents the academic content in an appealing and clear manner. The regular issues serve as a strategic platform for the university to communicate its key developments and activities. Digital content is also seamlessly integrated via QR codes, and the interactive table of contents in the web version optimises navigation.
- Digital integration: QR codes enable direct access to supplementary content
- Interactive web version: navigable table of contents for optimised user guidance
- A central element of the university’s strategic communications: regular updates on developments and activities presented in a well-thought-out design
The entire creation process was supported by close and continuous dialogue with the university’s communications team. This enabled agile adaptation to new requirements and an efficient, targeted implementation of the project.
